How will the Tribe do this year?
Jim McIntyre
The Cleveland Indians open the 2008 season March 31st, the earliest opening day ever, after going all the way to the American League Championship Series in 2007. The tribe had a 3-1 lead over the Boston Red Sox before it all ended. The team will try to better their performance this year, and many think they have a good shot at it, based largely on the strength of their pitching staff. After all, the Indians have the reigning Cy Young award winner in C. C. Sabathia. Plus, Fausto Carmona, who came in fourth in Cy Young balloting last year, veterans Paul Byrd and Jake Westbrook, and most likely Cliff Lee to round out the starting rotation. With a few off-season additions to the bullpen, many characterize the Indians pitching staff as the strongest in the division. Will that translate to a League Championship, and an appearance in the World Series? We put these questions to you:
Will the Indians win the American League Central Division?
Will the team fall flat, following last year’s successes?
Will the 2008 World Series Champions be the Cleveland Indians?
I pick the Tribe to return to the championship series, after a tough battle with Detroit all season long. And keeping in mind my bias as a lifelong Indians fan, I pick them to GO ALL THE WAY! |
